LSU Tigers Celebrate Championship at the White House
LSU Tigers baseball coach Jay Johnson recently expressed his appreciation for President Donald Trump during the team’s visit to the White House to celebrate their national championship. It was a special day for the Tigers, especially as LSU Shreveport also joined the festivities after going undefeated in their own championship run.
The LSU Tigers clinched the College World Series title by defeating teams like the University of Arkansas and UCLA, as well as sweeping Coastal Carolina. Johnson, quite heartfelt in his remarks, said, “Mr. President, thank you for having us in your home. I think what I value most from you is the work ethic that we preach. No one works harder for America than you, so thank you for setting a good example.”
He also acknowledged Louisiana’s Republican Representatives, Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise, for their assistance in organizing the celebration. Their presence certainly made the event more noteworthy.
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Johnson remarked, “It is the honor of a lifetime to be in the home of the greatest country in the world. To make that happen, they had to do it on the field. But we’re here because of your efforts, and it’s great that Louisiana is so well represented by the two of you.” This recognition seems, well, fitting considering Louisiana’s rich baseball culture.
Both coaches, Jay Johnson and LSU Shreveport’s Brad Neffendorf, highlighted the dedication and mindset their teams developed throughout the long season. It’s that championship mentality, they emphasized, that really propelled their success.
As a memento of the visit, both schools presented the President with a jersey marked with the number 47, further enhancing the connection between the teams and the nation’s leader.
