LSU Considering Ed Orgeron for Coaching Role
Another interesting chapter unfolds in the world of college football.
It seems LSU is contemplating the idea of reuniting with former coach Ed Orgeron as part of Lane Kiffin’s staff. This information comes from sources like CBS Sports.
Sometimes, it feels like these decisions have a back-and-forth nature.
Orgeron, who famously led the Tigers to a national championship in 2019 but was let go in 2021, recently expressed his willingness to return. “Are you kidding me? I’m just a phone call away,” he said in a radio interview last month. “If I have to get in the truck, I might get there today.”
That said, the situation relies on numerous factors.
For one, Kiffin is still the head coach at Ole Miss and has achieved a 10-1 record. The Rebels sit at sixth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
Even though Kiffin is trying to fend off speculation, rumors about his potential moves to Baton Rouge or Gainesville, where he’s being eyed by Florida State, persist.
“I’m going to continue doing what I’ve been doing for six years. I’m not talking about any other job or situation,” Kiffin remarked during an SEC coaches conference call, visibly irritated by inquiries regarding his future.
In a rather pointed exchange, he questioned a reporter, saying, “Do you know something I don’t know? Am I going to coach next week? Why wouldn’t I be coaching next week?” He seemed perplexed by the assumption that he wouldn’t be at the helm for an upcoming game.
As the college football landscape shifts, Kiffin is certainly in the spotlight, and Orgeron is likely keeping a close watch on developments at LSU.
“I love LSU,” Orgeron mentioned back in October. “I still have a home in Baton Rouge. I loved coaching with you.” He even acknowledged his fondness for the Tigers and hinted that he would certainly consider any coaching opportunities that might arise.
Kiffin is reportedly scheduled to meet with Ole Miss officials soon, but it’s uncertain how much clarity that meeting will provide going forward.
