LSU football promotional video draws criticism following Notre Dame incident

LSU Football Hype Video Removed Following Backlash

LSU Football seems to have taken down a hype video ahead of the 2025 season after receiving criticism on social media over the weekend.

The video posted on the team’s X accounts brought back memories of a tragic event from 2010, when a student videographer lost his life during a practice managed by Brian Kelly, who was then head coach of the Fighting Irish.

Declan Sullivan died when a hydraulic lift he was using was toppled by winds reaching up to 53 mph. He was just 20 years old.

The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (iOSHA) investigated the incident, imposing a fine of $77,500 for six safety violations related to Sullivan’s death, as noted by ESPN.

Kelly mentioned that decisions about practicing outdoors were based on “information from my support staff.”

The investigation determined that mechanical failures weren’t to blame, and it was found that Notre Dame did not uphold safe working conditions, nor did they heed National Weather Service warnings.

After leaving Notre Dame in 2021, Kelly assumed the head coaching role at LSU following Ed Orgeron’s departure.

Interestingly, LSU did not seem to acknowledge any deleted tweets.

The video appeared to showcase the tower close to the Tigers’ practice field, which led into promotional footage.

“Wow…RIP Declan Sullivan,” one user commented.

Another person expressed disbelief, noting: “It’s crazy knowing how far you had to go to be approved to post.”

Some viewers showed confusion, asking why the video sparked controversy.

One user remarked, “It’s just practice footage, not that deep. It was 15 years ago, not about a hydraulic lift. Relax.”

Currently in his fourth season at LSU, Kelly boasts a record of 29-11.

The Tigers are set to kick off their 2025 season against Clemson on August 30th.
