LSU freshman quarterback Colin Hurley was injured in a traffic accident on campus early Thursday morning, police said.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department and LSU Police Department found 17-year-old Hurley, unresponsive but breathing, near one of the campus entrance gates shortly before 3 a.m., according to the report.

Hurley was driving a Dodge Charger at the time of the accident and is believed to have struck a tree at South Quad Drive and Highland Road. WBRZ reported.

Hurley is from Jacksonville, Florida. He didn't see any action during his true freshman season.

Collin's family released a statement Thursday thanking medical personnel and LSU football fans for supporting the player as he continues his recovery.

“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the wonderful doctors and nurses at Our Lady of Lakeheath, and the many Tiger fans for their care and compassion.” statement read. “Colin is resting and in a stable condition, but further tests and treatment are being carried out. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this horrific accident.”

The cause of the crash was not immediately released, but officials said impairment was not believed to be a factor. Because Harley is a minor, university officials have not commented further on the situation.
