Ludvig Aberg “really hungry” for PGA Championship after Masters runner-up

Ludwig Oberg played like a veteran at Augusta National, even though it was his first Masters appearance. He finished the week in sole second place behind Scottie Scheffler, who won his second green jacket in three years.

The Swedish prodigy shot a 3-under 69 in the final round and finished the tournament at 7 under.

Now that he’s finished his first major, he can’t wait for the next one.

“This is my first major championship, and you never know what it’s going to be like until you get there and experience it,” Oberg said. “I think this week gave me a lot of experiences and I learned a lot of lessons in those respects. It makes me so hungry that I want to do it again and again.”

He admitted he was nervous and shaking on his first tee shot, but once he calmed down, the former Texas Tech Red Raider got to work.

Oberg looked polished and stable throughout the front nine, get 3 birdies You will be out after 33 strokes.

His only problem came on the par-4 11th, where he made double bogey.

“I’ve been playing the same shot all week, trying to drive or pull it just to the right of the right edge of the green,” he explained. “I tried to do the same thing today, but I ended up going a little too far to the left. The wind caught me and I fell into the water.”

The reigning RSM Classic champion knew to stay out of the water, but wanted to focus on the positive things that happened instead of that one error.

“It wasn’t ideal hitting No. 11 underwater, and I think everyone knows that,” Oberg said. “My team and I have focused on just continuing to play no matter what happens. I think if you keep playing, the skills will definitely show up.”

For many rookies, a double bogey on No. 11 would have derailed the rest of the round, but not Oberg. The 24-year-old continued on his way, birdieing both his shots on the 13th and 14th.

“This was a good example of just continuing to play to make sure the ball was in front of me. There’s still a lot of holes left to play,” he explained. “I think it was very encouraging to be able to get a good result after those few holes.”

Oberg has a month left until his second major at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, where he will aim to continue his impressive run.
