Luka Doncic Steps Back from Slovenian National Team

Los Angeles Lakers player Luka Doncic has announced that he will not be participating with the Slovenian national team this summer. His decision comes as he aims to prioritize spending time with his daughters amidst an ongoing custody dispute with his ex-fiancée Anamaria Goltes.

In a recent Instagram post, Doncic shared his intentions to dedicate his summer to his daughters. He expressed, “I love my daughters more than anything. They will always be first in my life.” He continued, mentioning the difficulties he’s faced in seeing them over the past several months. “As we work toward joint custody, I’ve had to make tough choices about playing for Slovenia and being present in their lives,” he said.

Doncic emphasized his commitment to Slovenia, noting how hard it is to forgo an opportunity to represent his home country. “It’s unfortunate that I won’t be able to play for my country this summer. At this point, my role as a father is my main priority,” he added.

Earlier this year, Doncic had revealed that he ended his engagement with Goltes largely due to challenges in balancing his basketball career in the U.S. with being there for his children. The couple became engaged in July 2023, and their daughters were born in November 2023 and December 2025.

Goltes has since filed a legal complaint in California regarding child support and attorney’s fees. Doncic had mentioned, “I’ve done my best to be present for them in America during the season, but that proved impossible, leading us to a difficult decision about our engagement.” He is clearly committed to ensuring the happiness of his daughters, vowing to fight for a good life for them. “Everything I do is for their happiness,” he concluded.
