Luka Doncic Faces Off Against Warriors at Chase Center
Luka Doncic was greeted with an enthusiastic reception during his debut at the Chase Center on Friday night.
However, things took a turn just under a minute into the first quarter, as Golden State Warriors fans began booing and chanting “Luka sucks,” setting the tone for this highly anticipated game.
The chants persisted throughout the quarter, much to the delight of Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, who was clearly enjoying the atmosphere.
This tough reception from fans likely stemmed from a previous encounter between Doncic and Lendeborg. During the Warriors and Lakers season opener on October 21, the two were seen exchanging some trash talk, which, well, stirred the pot a bit.
Lendeborg even received a technical foul that game after admitting to using some choice words directed at Doncic.
After that match, Lendeborg openly stated that he “lost all respect” for Doncic, citing his tendency to “whine and complain.”
Since then, everyone has been eagerly waiting for the rematch between Doncic and Lendeborg.
Before the game kicked off, Lendeborg made a bold statement by showing up dressed as Michael Myers, the iconic horror movie character. Quite a choice, right?
While Lendeborg was confident in his off-court antics, Doncic quickly made his mark on the court. His first basket of the night? A three-pointer right in front of Lendeborg, bringing the score to 5-0.
The Lakers then went on a strong 12-0 run, forcing Golden State to call their first timeout.
Halftime Showdown
As the second quarter progressed, Doncic was impressive, posting 21 points while Lendeborg had yet to score.
But the Warriors made adjustments and held Doncic to a total of 24 points by the end of the first half. They managed to rally with a 10-0 run led by Steph Curry, who added 14 points during this stretch.
As the halftime buzzer sounded, the score was tied at 53-53.
This is a developing story, and updates will follow.
