After a blockbuster deal that sent Don Sic to Los Angeles, there's still a lot of love between former Mavericks teammates Toruka Don Sic and Kyrie Irving.
Irving suffered from what was revealed to be a season-ending broken ACL against the Kings on Monday night, and while Donsic is now a Laker after a deadline contract, he expressed his best wishes for his former running mate who led Dallas to last year's NBA Finals.
“You'll be back to MI Hermano even stronger!” Doncic posted on his Instagram Story on Tuesdaycalling Irving his “brother.”
The pair spent two and a half seasons together in Dallas as one of the NBA's best duos.
In 128 games against the Mavericks, Irving averaged 25.5 points, 5.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Donsic and Irving were very heavily dependent on Dallas during their preseason run to the NBA Finals. Irving played 40 minutes per night and averaged 22.1 points per game.
When Doncic's Lakers won Mavericks in LA on February 25th – the first matchup since a league-change deal – Los Angeles defeated Dallas 107-99.
Doncic posted a triple double with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists in a “revenge game,” which included staring at the Dallas bench.
The team's next matchup will take place in Dallas on April 9th, with Donsic making his first appearance at the American Airlines Center since his stunning contract.
Donsic's return to Lone Star State is highly anticipated, but Irving's loss will certainly change the landscape and expectations of the game.
