Luka Doncic scores 41 points, but the Lakers lose to the Trail Blazers

In the early part of the 2026-27 season, the Lakers had managed to string together some effective defensive plays, helping their powerhouse offense secure three consecutive victories.

However, those defensive moments were few and far between against the Trail Blazers on Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, resulting in the Lakers suffering their first loss of the season.

Despite Luka Doncic continuing to shine after a spectacular 52-point game in Salt Lake City, the Lakers failed to provide the necessary defensive support to complement another impressive offensive outing, ultimately falling to the Blazers 136-129, bringing their season record to 3-1.

Doncic finished with 41 points, shooting 12-of-22 (including 6-of-15 from beyond the arc and 11-of-13 on free throws), alongside nine assists and five rebounds.

Austin Reaves was also impressive, scoring 26 points on 8-of-13 shooting (4-of-8 on three-pointers), and adding seven assists and four rebounds.

The Trail Blazers, boasting the second-best offense in the league entering the game, capitalized on the Lakers’ defensive weaknesses.

Deni Avdija led the Blazers with 23 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, while Ja Morant (23 points, four assists), Damian Lillard (21 points, four assists), and Jrue Holiday (22 points, four rebounds) all contributed with 20 or more points.

In the closing moments of the game, the Blazers scored on five consecutive possessions, effectively stalling any hopes the Lakers had of catching up.

The Lakers struggled defensively against Portland’s offensive onslaught: the Blazers shot an impressive 59% from the field and 50% from three-point range.

It’s worth noting that the Blazers could have won by a larger margin, as they only converted 63% of their free throws (26-of-41).
