Luka Doncic’s leadership is set to shine this summer.
A source close to Doncic revealed that the Los Angeles Lakers standout plans to host a four-day minicamp in Slovenia this August, inviting the entire team. During these four days, they’ll engage in workouts, pick-up games, play some golf, and explore Ljubljana.
A contact mentioned to the California Post, “Luka is really excited about hosting in his hometown, and he’s looking forward to the team bonding before the season kicks off.”
Since the Lakers acquired Doncic last February, there have been indications that he’s becoming the new franchise star. This marks a new chapter for the team with Doncic in charge.
LeBron James not returning to the Lakers was a significant change, allowing Doncic to firmly establish himself as the leader. He’s been actively assisting general manager Rob Pelinka in shaping the roster this summer.
As for the current lineup, questions linger and will ultimately be resolved through their performance on the court. Initial responses to Doncic’s signing created some speculation about whether the team would stir things up.
The Lakers signed center Walker Kessler to a three-year deal worth $130 million, positioning him as a key player for the offseason. Pelinka’s move directly addressed Doncic’s wish for a top-tier big man.
Alongside Kessler, new additions like Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, and Sandro Mamukelashvili will need to demonstrate that they can integrate effectively. This means the Lakers face significant pressure as they head into the 2026-27 season.
Doncic is aware of this dynamic. His choice to hold the minicamp in Slovenia reflects this understanding, providing his veteran teammates a chance to familiarize themselves with his hometown and, equally important, to foster team chemistry before training camp begins.
In the last couple of seasons, Doncic has struggled with injuries. So, it’s crucial for superstars to not only shine in their play but also show resilience throughout the season.
This new era for Los Angeles has officially commenced, and the hopes of the city now rest significantly on Doncic’s shoulders.
