Luka Doncic willing to return to Real Madrid to finish his professional basketball career

Luka Doncic has hinted that he might want to wrap up his basketball career where it all started.

This week, the 26-year-old mentioned in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that he is open to the notion of returning to Real Madrid once he’s done with the NBA.

While Doncic isn’t sure if that will happen, he seems intrigued by the idea.

“To play with Real Madrid, you have to be very good,” he shared in the interview.

He reflected on his connection to the team, saying, “It’s true, they raised me.”

Real Madrid is widely regarded as one of the top professional basketball teams in Europe, boasting an impressive history with numerous championships and titles.

Doncic began his basketball journey with Real Madrid at just 13, playing for their under-16 squads before moving to the La Liga ACB team at 16—the youngest player in the league at that time.

After four years with Real Madrid, Doncic was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks but was quickly traded to the Dallas Mavericks on draft night as the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Recently, Doncic experienced a significant change, losing 31 pounds during the offseason, which he mentioned as part of his commitment to improving every summer.

“I’m very competitive, and this summer was a bit different, you know,” he said when discussing his transformation. “I think visually, I can see my whole body very well.”
