The reported deal in which the Carolina Panthers would trade linebacker Brian Burns to the New York Giants appeared to be the last straw for country music star Luke Combs.

The Panthers traded Barnes, with the defensive star agreeing to a five-year, $150 million contract extension, according to multiple reports. In response to the news, Combs held up a fan flag.

“What are we doing?!?!?” he wrote in a post about X addressed to the Panthers. “A few years ago McCaffrey didn’t have a first round pick, now Barnes doesn’t have a first round pick??!

“Are we just incendiary bombing the whole team here or what? I don’t usually comment on this kind of thing, but at this point it’s just slow torture.”

According to NFL Network, Carolina acquired Barnes and a second- and fifth-round draft pick in the deal with the Giants.

The Panthers traded McCaffrey, returning their star running back to the San Francisco 49ers for second-, third-, and fourth-round draft picks. His contract was completed midway through the 2022 season. Since then, McCaffrey has become one of the best all-around offensive players in the NFL.

Last season, Carolina traded the 2024 No. 1 overall pick to the Chicago Bears for the 2023 No. 1 overall pick. The team selected Bryce Young with the pick. However, the Panthers had the worst record last season, and the Bears have the top pick this year.
