Luke Voit wore wild uniform and belted HR for Syracuse Mets

The ex-Yankee and former Major League home run king made headlines for his jersey selection, but it also served as a reminder of his power.

During Saturday night’s minor league game against the Syracuse Mets, Luke Voight wore a half-buttoned sleeveless jersey.

And he hit a home run.

But that wasn’t enough as Syracuse lost 8-3 to the Yankees’ Triple-A team, the Scranton/Wilkes Barr Rail Riders.

Voight, 32, has had some form in Syracuse since signing a minor league deal with the Mets on June 12.

He has 5 homers and 13 RBIs in 15 games, but his batting is mediocre. 217 (10 out of 46).

It’s been a tough season for Voight as he seeks to return to the big leagues.

The former Bombers slugger, who led the American League with 22 home runs in the 2020 season, which was shortened due to the effects of the new coronavirus, signed a minor league contract with the Brewers in February and was released on June 2.

The first baseman, who also spends a lot of time as a designated hitter, failed to hit a home run in 68 at-bats during his short 22-game tenure with the Brewers.

Boasting 95 career homers, Voight was only .548 OPS before the team decided to cut back on food.

Those multifaceted numbers are a far cry from the 68 homers he hit for the Yankees over the four seasons from 2019-2021.

However, Voight was sidelined by injury and traded to the Padres for pitching candidate Justin Lang after the Yankees decided to re-sign Anthony Rizzo as a full-time first baseman. Still in the Bombers minor league organization.

Foyt didn’t last long with the Padres in 2022 and was included in the package he sent to the Nationals in signing Juan Soto.

In 135 games with San Diego and Washington, Voight hit 22 homers, 13 with the Padres and nine with the Nationals.
