Ride-hailing service Lyft announced it would offer discounts on rides, bikeshares and scooters on Election Day in an effort to increase transportation access for voters.

Jerry Golden, Lyft's chief policy officer, announced the 50% deal in a press release.
“At Lyft, we believe transportation access should never be a barrier to citizens seeking to vote. Our voting access programs reflect our commitment to being a force for good. , we're proud to encourage our riders and drivers to exercise their fundamental right to vote, regardless of their income, ZIP code or political affiliation,” Golden said.
According to the release, the company will offer a 50% discount to those who go to the polls using certain codes from 5pm to 10pm in all time zones on Election Day. Election Day is Tuesday, November 5thth.
Lyft will also partner with TV personalities Serena Page, Cordell Beckham, and Sasha Colby to encourage more people to get out and vote.
The release also notes that Lyft helped more than 3 million people vote this year. Additionally, the company has pledged to increase ridership at polling places by 25%, with an overall goal of adding 500,000 new voters by 2028.
According to data provided by Lyft, the longest rides to polling places are in Texas, Georgia, and Mississippi, each ranging from 8.5 miles to 9.3 miles. Data also revealed that Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Washington, D.C. have the shortest ride distances, each ranging from 4.5 miles to 5.1 miles.
The data report also showed a 20% increase in ridership to polling places in Georgia and a 12% increase in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
The program was first launched in 2014. This year, Lyft plans to increase rides to polling places by 25% compared to 2022.
