McJones has a new home.
The quarterback has agreed to a two-year, $7 million contract to join the 49ers, the NFL network reported Wednesday night.
Jones earns a $5 million bond and can earn as much as $11.5 million.
He will likely put the slot in as a backup to his current 49ers starter block pardy.
Jones, 26, spent last season with the Jaguar after being traded by the Patriots following the firing of Bill Belichick.
As a researcher at Trevor Lawrence, Jones was caught up in his seventh 10 games (7 times) as he required a concussion and end-of-season surgery to repair an AC joint injury.
Jones went 2-5 as the Jaguar starter, pitching for 1,672 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions.
His 39.8 QBR has represented his best since his Pro Bowl rookie season in New England.
Jones gives the 49ers the veteran insurance behind Purdy, who was backed up last season by Joshua Dobbs and Brandon Allen.

The lead-up to the 2021 draft included a lot of talk before the 49ers used a first-round pick at Jones before choosing third-place overall pick and treylanse.
Jones eventually fell to the Patriot at No. 15, where he reached the playoffs once, but spent three years with the organization that benched Bailey Zappe at Points in 2022 and 2023.
Now with his third team, Jones has another fresh start.
