Kraft Dinner Ventures into New Territory with Cream Soda

So, it’s not unusual for Canadians to defend their culinary tastes. Ketchup chips, poutine, and even Hawaiian pizza often spark debate. However, Kraft Dinner might have crossed a line with its latest creation, which has left many Canadians feeling somewhat queasy.

This time, the beloved mac and cheese is making an unexpected foray into the world of cream soda.

MAID to order?

The limited-edition KD x Solly’s Cream Soda proposes a mix of traditional sweet cream soda with what Kraft describes as a “hint” of the familiar cheesy flavor. Yet, judging by the online buzz, many are skeptical about that hint.

Responses have varied widely, with some denouncing the creation as “disgusting” or even “abysmally disgusting.” A few social media users pondered why Canadians seem to thrive on such bizarre concoctions.

“Isn’t Canada going through enough? Why push this on them?” one user inquired.

Another user wondered if this was an extension of Canada’s assisted-suicide program.

It seems that some level of disgust might be part of the design.

Kraft Heinz appears to recognize that sipping on a fizzy, cheese-flavored beverage sounds quite odd. Kraft Heinz’s marketing head Daniel Lundberg expressed, “A soda might be the last place you would expect to find KD, which is exactly what made teaming up with Solly’s Craft Soda so much fun.” He continues, “It’s something to crack open with friends, debate what it could possibly taste like, and then satisfy your curiosity with that first sip.”

In short, the issue isn’t just whether cheese-flavored soda tastes good but whether you can resist giving it a try.

Solly’s founder, Adin Wener, described the process of creating the drink as “an amazing challenge” and conceded that the result is “wonderfully strange”—yet somehow, it works.

‘Flavour’ saver

This isn’t Kraft Dinner’s first foray into reinventing its classic blue-box meal. Previous ventures include KD Ramen and even KD Mac & Cheesecake.

However, carbonated cheese appears to have crossed a new line, even for Canadians who are used to experimenting with snacks. “Cheese soda is disgusting but ketchup chips are one of the best flavors,” one individual commented.

The limited-edition KD x Solly’s Cream Soda launched on September 23 on Amazon.ca and Solly’s website, with plans to roll out to select retailers, including Walmart, by early October, while supplies last.
