Mace says Trump 'very excited' about her primary win

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said former President Trump was “very excited” about his recent primary victory.

Mace bragged about his relationship with the former president on Fox News’ “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on Wednesday after winning Tuesday night’s primary despite facing criticism from Republicans and his party’s own candidates.

“I actually spoke to him last night. He called me and he was so excited,” she told host Neil Cavuto when asked about her relationship with Trump.

“He played a big role in our election. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without his support – I mean, he’s one of our strongest supporters right now – and we had one of our biggest elections win last night with his support,” she added.

She won her primary for South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District on Tuesday night, defeating opponent Katherine Templeton and avoiding a runoff amid backlash from some Republican lawmakers.

Mace has faced backlash from within his party after he was one of just eight Republicans to vote to remove former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from his position as leader last year, and has also faced criticism for his shifting support for him since Trump’s loss in the 2020 election and the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

After the attack on the Capitol, Mace said the GOPReconstruction was necessaryandTrump’s ‘entire legacy is gone’ She ended up endorsing the former president earlier this year, saying at the time it was time to unite behind one candidate.
