Mace seems to hint at a decision on her run for governor in the coming days.

Republican Representative Nancy Mace is gearing up to announce her candidacy for governor in her home state of South Carolina. In a recent interview with Fox News, she mentioned, “I will make a decision in the next few days,” indicating her intent to run for statewide office.

Mace, who has served three terms representing South Carolina’s Lowcountry district, hinted at her political ambitions during a speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Political Science. This speech is part of a traditional series that often serves as a launchpad for prospective presidential candidates. She noted the importance of the upcoming governor’s election in South Carolina while discussing various state issues.

In her conversations, Mace pointed to several factors motivating her to run. For instance, she criticized the state’s high income tax and expressed a desire to make South Carolina more competitive economically. Additionally, Mace emphasized issues of safety and law enforcement, claiming that the state is plagued by illegal immigration and that leaders are ignoring significant problems. She also commented on cultural issues in local schools, raising concerns about “gender-bending ideologies.”

If she formally enters the race, Mace will be competing against other GOP candidates, including Attorney General Alan Wilson and several state lawmakers. Notably, Wilson’s campaign has already gained endorsements from local sheriffs in Mace’s district.

Mace made headlines previously with controversial statements, particularly regarding allegations of sexual assault she claimed to have experienced. Wilson has firmly denied these allegations and called Mace a “liar,” suggesting her comments were simply distractions from her political agenda.

Having worked on Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016, Mace’s relationship with the former president has been complex. She faced challenges during her reelection bid in 2022, partly due to Trump’s support for a rival candidate. However, she later defended him amid various legal troubles and expressed her intentions to earn his backing if she pursues the governor’s position.

Mace’s speech in New Hampshire leaned heavily on cultural themes, where she reiterated her belief that traditional values and protections for women are at risk. She stated, “We still have a war with the far left,” referring to debates about gender and women’s rights, emphasizing her stance on biological truths.
