Macy’s 2025 Fourth of July fireworks display moves NYC viewers to tears

Independence Day brought the magic of fireworks.

On July 4th, thousands flocked to New York City to witness the spectacular 49th Macy’s Fireworks Show. The display kicked off at 9:25 PM, with 80,000 shells illuminating the night sky from four barges on the East River.

A spectator reflected, “Macy’s, we can’t thank you enough for this tradition. I cry. Yes, I do. This is New York City. Such a sight is rare.” They continued, “The Brooklyn Bridge? It’s simply breathtaking. It felt like it was on fire tonight.”

Shelley Hughes, a 40-year-old Army veteran who had flown in from California, remarked on the shared bond among the diverse crowd enjoying the show. “There’s just no place like New York City for celebrating what America stands for,” she noted, adding, “It felt like this was all very purposeful.”

Many felt the display was a welcome escape from today’s challenges. “We really need to come together as people,” one viewer said. A highlight for many was a breathtaking explosion that appeared like a waterfall cascading from the Brooklyn Bridge into the river.

And it wasn’t just Hughes who was visibly moved. “The waterfall effect was incredible. Honestly, one of the best shows I’ve seen in New York—maybe the best event ever,” a viewer commented.

Solpereja had traveled all the way from Cordoba, Argentina, with family just to experience these fireworks. “I was sure this would be something special,” shared the 27-year-old. During the show, his family huddled together, expressing their love for each other, a heartfelt moment amidst the spectacle.

“This is a memory we’ll cherish forever. The Brooklyn Bridge is the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen,” he added, struggling to find the right words to capture the night’s magic.

Longtime New Yorkers in attendance reminisced about the rarity of fireworks being launched from the Brooklyn Bridge before this event. Notably, some remarked on the American flag being projected on one of the bridge’s towers, adding to the evening’s patriotic spirit.
