(WKBN) — Two major retailers have announced store closures for the first time in the year.
Macy's and Kohl's stores across the country will soon go dark, according to news releases from the companies Thursday.

Macy's closes more than 60 stores
New York City-based Macy's plans to close 66 stores in about 24 states as part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy, and says the soon-to-be closed stores are “no longer moving forward.” Explaining.
The new strategy, first announced in February 2024, aims to return the company to sustained and profitable sales growth. Macy's plans to close approximately 150 low-productivity stores over three years, the company announced in a press release Thursday.

Macy's is on the list of impending closures, noting that its Hillsdale Furniture store in California will close in 2024, with the furniture business moved to a nearby full-line store. Furniture-only stores in Mission Valley, Calif., Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines and South Dade, Fla., have also moved to all nearby Macy's stores. Kohl's will close nearly 30 stores by April
Kohl's announced “real estate changes” for 2025, including closing its San Bernardino, Calif., e-commerce fulfillment center in May and closing 27 unprofitable stores by April 2025. .
