If that’s not already humiliating, Furiosa, alias Mad Max with a sexless female bossand now another Garfield Movies for the weekend crown.
Both companies are currently on track to gross $31 million over the four-day holiday weekend.
It’s not the end of the world GarfieldThe family film reportedly had a production budget of just $60 million, and with another $30 million for marketing, it might just barely break even, having already grossed $66 million worldwide.
Furiosa is going to be a financial disaster. Let’s say it cost $168 million to make, and $200 million including advertising (let’s be generous). That puts the breakeven point at around $400 million. This weekend’s worldwide gross is a horrible $59 million.
So what went wrong?
The answer is, what went wrong in Hollywood for the last five years? It wasn’t the pandemic. It wasn’t the strikes. It wasn’t the lack of production. teeth The product—the product is terrible.
