The devastated fiancée of a Wisconsin elementary school teacher arrested for having an affair with a fifth-grader has called off her wedding, a friend told the Post.
Madison Bergman and her fiancé Sam Hickman were scheduled to wed in July, but their plans for a glamorous wedding were scrapped after revelations about her romantic relationship with her 11-year-old student.
“It’s been postponed indefinitely,” a friend of Mr. Hickman’s said Saturday on condition of anonymity.
“And that’s probably not going to happen. Sam is really upset and heartbroken. He’s embarrassed and angry. He didn’t deserve that. Everybody’s angry,” he said. added.
A longtime couple’s wedding page on popular marriage site The Knot has been removed.
The friend said the decision to cancel the wedding, scheduled for July 27, was a mutual decision, not one of either party’s alone.
“It was more like, ‘Obviously, that’s not going to happen this summer,’ which is pretty much all you want to say,” he said.
“He says it’s strange that she cheated on him with a small child,” a friend told the Post.
“He’s really, really hurt. He doesn’t talk about it too much, just like, ‘This is messed up.'”
“He’s still in shock,” he continued.
“Not only did she cheat on him, she cheated on little kids too.”
The 24-year-old teacher was arrested after the victim’s parents discovered text messages between the two, according to the indictment.
An investigation was then launched when the boy’s father barged into River Crest Elementary School with a printout of the conversation.
The documents reveal intimate messages from Bergman detailing encounters between the two in classrooms during lunch and after school, including one in which the boy touches and “flirts” with him. It also included telling the boy how much fun he had, the complaint states.
Police also found a folder in the victim’s bag with the victim’s name written on it, which also contained a handwritten note stating the amount of kissing.
It is unclear how long the abuse had been going on, but the suspected pervert told investigators that his mother gave him the boy’s phone number when the family invited the teacher to Afton Alps for winter break in December. Ta.
That was the same month Bergman got engaged to Hickman, according to her social media.
The Hudson School District announced to parents on the same day of the arrest that the sick teacher has since been placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from having contact with students, parents, or staff in the district.
Bergman is charged with first-degree child sexual assault.
She was released on $25,000 signature bond.
