On Saturday, Vice President J.D. Vance emphasized that President Donald Trump “means what he says,” shortly after the operation aimed at capturing Venezuela’s socialist leader, Nicolas Maduro.
This remark followed President Trump’s announcement on Truth Social, indicating that the U.S. had conducted an airstrike.
“The president has laid out several alternatives and has been quite clear: drug trafficking must end, and the stolen oil needs to be returned to the U.S.,” Vance mentioned. “Mr. Maduro has now learned that President Trump stands by his words. We commend the courageous special operators who executed this remarkable mission.”
According to reports, Venezuela has declared a state of emergency in response to the explosion in Caracas.
“Smoke was spotted rising from a nearby military installation, and there were additional attacks reported in the regions of Miranda, Aragua, and Aguaira,” the article noted.
The video footage will showcase the explosion in Caracas.
Reports also indicated that Trump mentioned Maduro and his wife managed to escape the country.
Maduro, who has maintained power through questionable presidential elections, is currently wanted by U.S. authorities on various drug-terrorism charges. The U.S. is offering a reward of $50 million for any information leading to Maduro’s arrest or conviction.
In 2020, a U.S. court linked President Maduro to leadership in the Sunshine Cartel, a significant international cocaine trafficking network associated with high-ranking officials within Venezuela’s government. This cartel had been strategizing for years to inundate the United States with cocaine, intending to inflict harm on its citizens.
Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on Saturday that Maduro and his wife had been indicted.
“Mr. Maduro faces charges of conspiracy related to narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, and possession of a machine gun, among other accusations directed at the United States,” she stated.
