Congressman Praises Trump for Venezuela Operation
As Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro finds himself in a New York prison, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-Fla.), a congressman who escaped Fidel Castro’s Cuba as a child, is set to present a resolution commending President Donald Trump for his role in removing another dictator.
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, Gimenez highlighted the significance of Trump’s actions, emphasizing the “extraordinary” nature of carrying out this operation without American casualties. He remarked, “I am introducing a resolution to commend President Trump’s actions, noting that while law enforcement made the arrests, they were clearly facilitated by the United States military.” He further emphasized the importance of recognizing both Trump and the military for their efforts.
Trump’s Strategy and the ‘Donroe Doctrine’
According to Gimenez, Trump’s approach represents a significant version of the “Donroe Doctrine,” a modern echo of the historical Monroe Doctrine which warned European powers against intervening in the Western Hemisphere. This initiative suggests that the U.S. sees itself as responsible for maintaining security in its region and indicates a readiness to confront hostile governments directly.
“Dealing with narco-terrorists isn’t straightforward. They’re not going to surrender easily,” Gimenez noted, referencing the contentious climate in the Caribbean.
“With a warrant for Maduro’s arrest and a $50 million bounty – part of which was set by Joe Biden’s administration – the crucial difference is that Trump acted decisively to carry out that warrant,” Gimenez stated, expressing no reservations about the operation’s legitimacy.
He labeled the situation as a “seismic phenomenon,” pointing out that it has garnered attention from powerful nations worldwide. The resolution honors Trump, the military, the intelligence community, and the Department of Justice for their success during Operation Absolute Solution in Caracas.
The Context of Maduro’s Arrest
In a detailed statement, the resolution notes that Maduro and his wife face serious charges, including conspiracy related to narco-terrorism and the possession of a machine gun. It further reflects on the oppressive actions of Maduro’s regime, highlighting a transition to authoritarian rule and detailing numerous extrajudicial killings and human rights violations.
Gimenez emphasized Congress’s support for Venezuelans in their fight for democracy, insisting on a call for free and fair elections to revive democratic institutions previously dismantled by Maduro’s rule.
However, Gimenez pointed out that not all congressional members agree with condemning regimes like Maduro’s. “They have their defenders here on Capitol Hill. They often advocate for these indefensible regimes. While they’re not the majority, they certainly exist,” he remarked, adding a note of caution regarding the political landscape surrounding such issues.
