Major Ad Purchase Highlights Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed on AI Safety in Michigan

New Advertising Campaign Highlights Mike Rogers’ Focus on AI Safety

A significant advertising campaign worth seven figures has been launched in Michigan, spotlighting Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and his emphasis on establishing a national security framework for artificial intelligence. This initiative comes at a time when there is growing public demand for Washington to implement measures regarding this burgeoning technology.

The Alliance for a Better Future (ABF) unveiled the ad campaign on Friday, commending Rogers for his advocacy of essential protections aimed at safeguarding national security and American families.

The advertisement underscores the rapid development of artificial intelligence, referencing Rogers’ previous role as chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.

“Artificial intelligence is moving fast. Maybe too fast,” the ad points out, acknowledging even industry leaders share this concern.

Included in the ad is a statement from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who remarks that the industry is indeed “moving too fast.”

As the ad progresses, the narrator highlights Rogers’ extensive experience in dealing with emerging threats: “Mike Rogers spent years as Intelligence Committee Chairman. He knows how to handle emerging threats.”

It continues by noting, “That’s why Rogers is calling for a national security framework on AI,” referring to his recent policy announcement. “Real safeguards to protect Americans from technology we’re only beginning to understand.”

The ending emphasizes Rogers’ commitment: “In the Senate, he’ll make AI safety a top priority. Mike Rogers: protecting Michigan, protecting America.”

Janet Kelly, the CEO of Alliance for a Better Future, expressed, “We commend Mike Rogers for his courageous stand in support of commonsense guardrails that protect national security and American families. His leadership is a model for policymakers across the country to follow.”

This advertisement will be displayed on both broadcast and cable television, alongside various digital platforms in Michigan. It follows another similar seven-figure campaign launched by ABF earlier this week in states like Iowa, Kansas, and Maine.

ABF aims to ensure “America leads the world in AI” by advocating for governance that is “transparent, accountable, and worthy of the American people’s trust.”

The timing of this ad campaign is notable, arriving just two days after the Detroit News endorsed Rogers in the Michigan U.S. Senate race, labeling him as “clearly the best choice” over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. The newspaper highlighted Rogers’ 14 years of service in Congress, his experience as an Army officer, and his prior role as an FBI agent, while also critiquing El-Sayed’s limited governmental experience and other controversies surrounding his campaign.
