Boomer Esiason thinks he's gotten to the heart of the apparent friction between Aaron Rodgers and Jets coach Robert Saleh.
After Rodgers and Saleh failed to score a touchdown in the Jets' 10-9 loss at home to the Broncos in a rain-soaked game Sunday, the quarterback's notoriously complicated pre-snap rhythm caused confusion for the offensive line. In his post-match comments, he expressed a different opinion as to whether this was causing the situation. MetLife Stadium.
Speaking with Greg Gianotti on WFAN's Morning Drive program, Esiason read the body language of how the Jets quarterback doesn't interact with the head coach on the sideline.
“I'm trying to watch to see if there's any interaction on the sideline or anything like that, but there's nothing,” Esiason said.
“Nothing. I see a guy walking right past him. I can't imagine that happening.”
Esiason recalled a time when he had issues with his head coach during his playing days.
“Now, I remember those days, especially because there were days with two coaches, and I didn't trust the guy,” Esiason said.
“I didn't like the guy. I didn't know what he was doing and I was angry. If you read my body language on the team I was on at the time, I was angry. And when I saw Aaron Rodgers on the sideline and I saw him in the postgame press conference.”
Esiason said he was “guessing” based on personal experience, but continued to view Rodgers' postgame comments as problematic.
“I have a big problem with yesterday's postgame press conference,” Esiason said.
“They'll both deny it, I guarantee you. But there's a problem there, and that's because this 40-year-old Hall of Fame quarterback is dealing with a coach he doesn't seem to respect. .”
Saleh said in Sunday's post-match press conference. Cadence was not an issue at all [training] camp. It felt like our strategy was going pretty well. Obviously, we took a big step back today. ”
Rodgers disagreed with his coach's statement.
“That's one way,” he said. “Another way is to hold them accountable.”
The Jets (2-2) travel to London this week to take on the undefeated Vikings (4-0), led by Gang Green's former quarterback Sam Darnold.
