Attempts by the Maldives, a small Muslim nation in the Indian Ocean, to ban Israelis from entering the country are running into problems: the fact that 20 percent of Israel’s population is Arab means that a ban would also exclude many Arab Muslims.

The South Asian island nation of the Maldives said Sunday it would ban entry to individuals holding Israeli passports in protest at Israel’s ongoing self-defense operations against the Islamic militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
President Mohamed Muizz’s office explained that the change would require a complete overhaul of several Maldivian laws, which he would spearhead to prevent Israelis from entering the country.
