A dog allegedly stopped a 36-year-old man from grabbing a 3-year-old boy's arm in a broad daylight kidnapping attempt in Florida over the weekend.
Ron Lee Klein Jr. entered his family's fenced backyard through a gate at the back of the house around noon Saturday. WFLA-TV reportedcited an affidavit from the St. Petersburg Police Department.
“How horrible. I'm so glad the dog was with me.”
Klein allegedly grabbed the 3-year-old by the arm and tried to pick her up when the barking dog confronted her, the department said in an affidavit.
WFLA reported, citing the affidavit, that someone near the child noticed the barking and started screaming after Klein.
Investigators said Klein left the infant and fled the area, where St. Petersburg police located him and arrested him, the department said.
Klein is charged with attempted kidnapping and entering a confined area of a residence, WFLA said, citing an affidavit. Police say he is being held without bond.
