Malik Nabers disappointed as lackluster Giants offense leaves him unnoticed

Malik Nabers Struggles in Giants’ Loss

Malik Nabers, once a standout, was noticeably absent on Sunday evening as the Giants faced a tough loss.

After an impressive start to the season with 14 catches for 238 yards in just two weeks, Nabers faded into the background during the 22-9 defeat against the Chiefs at Metlife Stadium. He didn’t secure his first catch until early in the fourth quarter and exited the game due to visible injuries after an incomplete deep throw in the end zone.

He returned for the next drive but, surprisingly, finished the game with just two receptions for a mere 13 yards. Nabers himself remarked, “It’s exactly how the game turned out,” but it was clear he wasn’t satisfied.

This performance marked the lowest point in his career, prompting coach Brian Daboll to comment, “We have to do a better job with it.” Both Nabers and Daboll took note of the challenges presented by Kansas City.

Despite a strong showing against Dallas last week, where they showcased explosive plays, the Giants struggled offensively. Wan’dale Robinson pointed out the defense had a strong performance but still said, “that’s not an excuse.” He himself was limited to just one catch for 26 yards.

The lack of offensive output puts the Giants at a disappointing 0-3, echoing the struggles of Nabers’ rookie season. “I’m mad,” Nabers expressed when asked about his frustration with the recurring issues.

Shockingly, Nabers went into halftime without a single catch, only targeted three times by quarterback Russell Wilson in the first half. One of those attempts resulted in a painful interception in the end zone, crushing the Giants’ hopes of taking the lead.

The stark contrast in Nabers’ performance this season compared to his first 19 NFL games is hard to overlook. Last season, even with a less dynamic quarterback situation, he managed to rack up 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns. Teaming with Wilson, there were higher expectations for the year ahead.

After a promising debut against Washington, Nabers had an explosive outing against the Cowboys, featuring a 48-yard touchdown catch.

Now, he seemed to struggle significantly in this match-up against Kansas City, where a lack of offensive rhythm was evident. Nabers even faced a challenging moment when he was impeded by cornerback Kaire Elam, who held his face mask during a pass attempt—but no penalty was called, adding to the frustration of the day.

This kind of play is reminiscent of rare flashes seen in the Giants’ offense, but for Nabers and the entire team, Sunday marked a disappointing chapter.
