Giants Update: Key Dates and Player Assessments
Giants fans, mark August 17th as an important date.
On Monday, the team held its first practice since their preseason game against the Vikings.
Receiver Malik Nabors will be participating in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills earlier than usual, which is a positive sign as he continues rehabilitation from a torn ACL he suffered last season. He actually reduced his workload last Wednesday as part of this recovery strategy.
This feels like a crucial moment in his journey back for Week 1.
“We’re planning to integrate him into some group and maybe team periods soon,” said head coach John Harbaugh. “Probably next week. We’ll see how it goes. He’s doing great, working hard, and feeling good.”
Switching gears, there’s some speculation about whether QB Jackson Dart will take the field against the Vikings on Saturday. Harbaugh joked about the question, saying, “That’s a good direct question, one that should be avoided. I have to bob and weave. I’ll let you know later.”
Offensive coordinator Matt Nagy emphasized that the main focus in preseason remains on preparation, particularly in gauging Dart’s comfort with the new offensive scheme.
“If there are one or two plays he didn’t handle well, we need to figure out why that is,” Nagy noted.
Meanwhile, the Giants have released an unofficial roster, and there are some changes that stand out. Edge rushers Abdul Carter and Kayvon Thibodeau, along with running backs Cam Scatterbo and Tyrone Tracy Jr., are co-starters.
Interestingly, Paulson Adebo is noted as the starting cornerback over Deonte Banks. Darius Slayton and Nabors are currently the primary starting wide receivers, while Odell Beckham Jr. is listed on the third team. On the second-team offensive line, Evan Neal and Aaron Stinney share the right guard position, and Braxton Berrios is designated as the lead punt returner.
Notably, the Giants did not specify slots for cornerback or receiver in their roster.
