Updated Charges for Marquan D. Tucker
Three years after progressive prosecutors reduced the penalties for his involvement in the 2022 Mall of America murder, Marquan D. Tucker now faces new murder charges. These are linked to a 2023 nightclub shooting and a 2024 drive-by incident in Minneapolis.
Tucker was only 17 during the Mall incident. Two other individuals involved in that case received 30-year sentences, while Tucker, being charged as a juvenile, ended up with a lighter punishment. Local news reports indicate he was charged for obstructing the victim’s exit before the fatal shooting.
In his initial court appearance, Tucker’s teacher spoke on his behalf, mentioning that Tucker had received a college football scholarship, though it’s unclear what the final outcome of his sentencing was.
Surveillance footage reportedly shows Tucker blocking the victim’s path just before the shooting took place. Fast forward to December 2024, when Tucker was arrested again, this time under suspicion of murder as an archer. He faces three counts of second-degree murder for a shooting in Brooklyn Park.
Just recently, Tucker was charged once more with second-degree murder linked to a shooting outside a Minneapolis nightclub that happened in June 2023. Authorities have identified him as a member of the “High,” involved in violent interactions with members of the “Lows,” as reported by KSTP Eyewitness News. Witnesses have provided statements to confirm Tucker’s role as the gunman in this latest incident.
All three murders have been classified as gang-related, creating a troubling pattern for Tucker. Michael O. Freeman served as the Hennepin County District Attorney during the Mall of America shooting case, and he opted not to pursue more serious charges at that time. He was also involved in the prosecution of officers related to the deaths of Derek Chauvin and George Floyd.
Freeman’s time in office involved some controversy over his decisions, especially regarding the charges laid against Tucker. He has since been succeeded by Mary Moriarty, who took office in January 2023 after winning the election in 2022. Moriarty, too, has shown close ties to funding from organizations associated with George Soros, marking a continuation of that particular influence in local prosecutorial politics.
