Mamdani adviser supports campaign for re-election of key Squad member: Report

Political Strategist Launches Re-Election Bid

Morris Katz, a leading advisor to Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral campaign, is reportedly seeking re-election for the House of Representatives, representing the progressive faction. Katz, known for his left-leaning political strategies, has been instrumental in creating promotional content for Greg Casar, the current chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and a member of the “Squad” from Texas.

He has a history of working on Democratic campaigns, having reportedly helped elevate the Workers’ Family Party in New York and facing off against Senator Susan Collins in Maine. Additionally, he advised Dan Osborne’s Senate campaign in Nebraska. Katz’s agency, known for producing engaging political ads, has featured prominent progressives like Senator John Fetterman and Bernie Sanders.

Cuomo and Adams Exchange Views on the Mayoral Race

Katz’s rise to prominence largely stems from his work with Mamdani. His initial impression of Mamdani, a democratic socialist, was strong, as he expressed in a June interview with a publication. Despite his enthusiasm, Katz noted a need for skepticism regarding how the broader public might perceive Mamdani.

Currently, Katz is backing Casar, who seeks a third term representing parts of Austin, Texas. Attempts made by Fox News Digital to get comments from both Katz’s agency and the Casar campaign have gone unanswered.

Casar’s advertisements highlight his previous experience in labor organizations and his legislative work before joining Congress in January 2023.

In his promotional materials, Casar argues that he represents a different kind of political figure—one who began his career in community work, rather than traditional corporate or legal pathways, underscoring his commitment to worker’s rights and social justice.

His new campaign ads also invoke prominent progressive figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez while criticizing Trump and affiliated politicians. Meanwhile, a clever ad released previously attempts to draw on his initial congressional bid back in 2022.

Casar’s Timing Amid Political Changes

Casar’s campaign announcement coincides with recent legislative actions in Texas, which could potentially reshape congressional maps and may shift valuable seats toward Republicans. This situation has ignited competition among Democratic representatives in the state.

Longtime Representative Lloyd Dogget, who finds himself pitted against Casar under the new district lines, recently announced he likely wouldn’t seek re-election if these maps go into effect.

Dogget articulated his intentions, suggesting he wanted his actions to encourage Casar not to abandon his district. He expressed regret over his decision but emphasized a desire to focus on larger political battles rather than intra-party conflicts.

Casar acknowledged Dogget’s influence and expressed his gratitude, emphasizing the ongoing struggle for democracy. He also committed to opposing gerrymandering and indicated plans to run in the new district that encompasses a significant portion of his current constituency.
