New York City Mayoral Candidate Announces Scavenger Hunt Amid Controversy
Zoran Mamdani, a self-identified democratic socialist running for mayor in New York City, kicked off his campaign’s scavenger hunt in a recent video. It looks like his initiative might be aimed at his opponent, current Mayor Eric Adams, especially given the recent troubles in Adams’ administration.
The video, shared on Mamdani’s X account with the tagline “Game On,” opens with a shot of a trail of potato chips leading to a person sitting on a bench, casually enjoying a bag of Har’s sour cream and onion chips.
Interestingly, this announcement comes shortly after Adams’ former aide, Winnie Greco, faced allegations related to a supposed bribery attempt involving cash hidden inside potato chip bags from the same brand.
By Saturday afternoon, the video had gone viral, racking up over 30,000 likes. “Hello, my friend. I have to be clean,” Mamdani says while munching on chips, adding, “I have something to hide, because, in fact, we’re doing a scavenger hunt.”
The scavenger hunt is set to begin on Sunday at 2 PM, guiding participants through clues tied to the city’s history. The first clue was teased in a video released Sunday morning, and the final stop promises surprises, though not cash—Mamdani joked about making it clear.
“At the last stop, you can find a special surprise—not a chunk of cash,” he clarified in the clip.
The video wraps up with someone cleaning up the scattered chips on the sidewalk. Following the recent troubles in Adams’ camp, Mamdani’s campaign spokeperson, Dora Pekec, criticized the current administration. She remarked, “New Yorkers struggle to buy in the most expensive city, yet Adam’s administration seems too caught up in corruption to help them.”
Just a day after the chip incident was unveiled, news broke about several individuals in Adams’ circle, including former top advisors, facing bribery charges. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office announced indictments for multiple associates of Adams, pointing to serious allegations of misconduct.
As of now, Eric Adams has not issued a statement in response to these developments.
