Mamdani Draws Socialists From Around the World to Come to America to Learn About Him

Zoran Mamdani’s Rising Fame in the New York Mayoral Race

Zoran Mamdani hasn’t clinched the New York mayoral position yet, but he’s already generating a buzz both locally and across Europe. It seems that European socialists are particularly fascinated by him, with some even making the trip to the U.S. to observe the final stages of his campaign before the election, according to a report from Politico.

For instance, Manon Aubry, who organizes left-wing and communist Members of Parliament in the European Parliament, visited New York earlier this month, mingling with Mamdani’s supporters. Additionally, officials from Germany’s anti-capitalist party, Left, met with Mamdani’s chief campaign strategist, Morris Katz, to draw inspiration for their own initiatives.

Riza Pflaum, a member from the left-wing faction, shared that her party intends to adapt Mamdani’s strategy for the Berlin regional elections in September 2026. They believe their recent success in Germany’s general elections can be attributed to adopting similar tactics—focusing on affordability, grassroots funding, and door-to-door canvassing.

In a statement to Politico, Pflaum noted, “We’re presenting a concrete vision of how we can actually improve people’s lives, and you can feel it right away here in New York. People are starting to feel hope again.”

Mamdani’s appeal among European leftists is bolstered by his effective media strategy. The deputy leader of the Green Party in the UK applauded Mamdani’s dynamic communication style, suggesting that many British politicians tend to produce lackluster social media content.

Daniele Obono, a member of France’s left-wing party, praised Mamdani’s victory in the Democratic primary as a significant political milestone, highlighting the innovative communication methods he employed, especially through social media.

It’s fair to say that Mamdani’s approach to social media has outshone his rivals, particularly Andrew Cuomo. With a blend of charisma and energy, he’s managed to rally quite a following in New York. Conversely, Cuomo’s campaign has been described as stagnant and lifeless.

Yet, while Mamdani’s media game is strong, there are concerns. His proposals for “affordable” initiatives could lead to financial troubles for the city, and without clever marketing, it’s questionable whether his popularity would hold. After all, having the backing of European socialists isn’t necessarily a winning ticket, and if the Democrats had a stronger contender than Cuomo, Mamdani might not have even been in the running.
