Trump Threatens to Move World Cup from Boston Amid Crime Concerns

President Donald Trump has issued a warning about the potential relocation of the World Cup from the New England area unless Boston’s Democratic mayor, Michelle Wu, takes stronger action against crime.

Interestingly, there’s no current threat to the New York area, where the finals are scheduled for July 19, 2026. Zoran Mamdani, a New York mayoral candidate whom Trump once labeled a “communist lunatic,” stated that he would welcome both Trump and his son Barron, who enjoys soccer, to MetLife Stadium.

In fact, Trump was present at the Club World Cup final held at the New Jersey Stadium last July.

Last month, Mamdani expressed his vision of the World Cup and emphasized the need for an “emperor” role specifically for the event in East Rutherford, New Jersey. During a discussion with Martha McCallum, he laid out how this role could significantly benefit New Yorkers instead of just tourists.

“The World Cup is a massive global event, yet it feels like the NYC government isn’t really engaging with it. Next summer, all eyes will be on us,” he remarked. “The World Cup Emperor will strive to create an unforgettable tournament for New Yorkers. It’ll be an event that not only boosts tourism but also supports small businesses and encourages locals to explore the city.”

It’s clear he feels they have missed out on these opportunities before. Reflecting on New York City’s recent 400th anniversary, he added that many residents were unaware of it due to a lack of promotion.

Additionally, Mamdani has been vocal about the exorbitant ticket prices for the World Cup, labeling the “$6,000” tickets as “ridiculous.”

Boston’s mayor responded to Trump’s threats, highlighting indiscrepancies in FIFA’s ticketing strategies. He suggested that the current arrangements could alienate many New Yorkers from experiencing the event first-hand.

Mamdani is advocating for 15% of tickets to be set aside for local residents at discounted prices and has urged FIFA to abandon demand-based pricing to make the event more accessible.

As for ticket pricing, it has been revealed that group stage game tickets start at $60, while finals can reach up to $6,730, with prices subject to change based on demand.
