Mayor Calls for Mental Health Treatment Following Shooting Incident

In a recent incident in Queens, 22-year-old Jabez Chakraborty was shot and killed by an NYPD officer after reportedly approaching them with a large kitchen knife. Newly elected Mayor Zoran Mamdani emphasized that Chakraborty, who had battled schizophrenia for years, required mental health support rather than criminal charges.

“I’ve met with the Chakraborty family and visited Jabez in the hospital. No family should have to go through such pain. This situation underscores the urgent need for an improved mental health response system that ensures safety for New Yorkers facing mental health challenges, their families, and our police,” said Mamdani after the incident.

“Mr. Jabez needs mental health treatment, not prosecution,” he further asserted.

Blaze TV host Sarah Gonzalez humorously remarked, “Who would have thought that having a Muslim communist as mayor of New York City would be problematic?” before showing body camera footage of the event.

The footage revealed Chakraborty continuing to advance on the officers with the knife despite repeated requests to drop it, prompting the officer to fire. Gonzalez noted, “They warned him several times to put down the sharp object while holding firearms. They retreated as he attacked, so it seems they gave him more chances than anyone else would.”

She expressed confusion over the idea of potential attempted murder charges, stating, “That’s clearly what the footage shows.” Gonzalez criticized Mamdani’s reaction, commenting, “Instead of praising the NYPD for their bravery, it’s disheartening to see him respond like this.”
