Incident in Indiana: Four Shot, One Critical
An incident in Gibson County, Indiana, involved a man calling 911 to report that he had shot four people on Thursday evening.
The sheriff’s office received a call around 8:31 p.m. about multiple gunshots fired in the 12000 block of South Scottsdale Drive, near Haubstadt. Upon arriving, law enforcement discovered 77-year-old Patrick Waite alongside three deceased individuals.
The victims have been identified as 61-year-old Alma Waite, 81-year-old Gloria Tapia Garcia, and 39-year-old Fernando Tapia Ramirez Sr. Reports indicate that the victims sustained gunshot wounds to the head.
Waite called 911 after the shooting and mentioned that he would be waiting outside for the authorities. According to court records, he and his wife had argued over the home’s ownership, leading to Waite allegedly moving to another room and shooting the other victims, one of whom was still in bed.
In court documents, Waite expressed remorse, stating, “I shot them all. I’m certainly not proud of that fact at all.” He claimed to have the firearm on him because he had shot a snake outside earlier, as reported by law enforcement.
In addition to the three fatalities, there was a fourth victim who was critically injured and transported to the hospital. This person had reportedly been shot in the neck.
Witnesses of the shooting included four others, one of whom was a child, but fortunately, none of them were harmed.
Waite appeared in court Monday, facing three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Autopsies for the deceased victims were scheduled for the same day.
Gibson County Sheriff Vanoven commented on the tragedy, stating, “Gibson County is suffering the loss of these deceased individuals, and we will come together as a community to heal.”
