Man found dead at zoo after big cat seen ‘holding a shoe in its mouth’

A man has been found dead in Pakistan after zoo staff saw the big cat with a shoe in its mouth.

According to CBS News, the incident took place on Wednesday at the Cherburg Zoo in Bahawalpur, Punjab.

Government official Zaheer Anwar told media that zoo workers were cleaning up the animal when they made the gruesome discovery.

“When we cleaned the zoo and den, we found (the animal) with a shoe in its mouth,” Anwar said.

When zoo staff went to investigate the lynx's burrow, they discovered the lynx's carcass.

“Staff became suspicious and found a body inside the cave,” he added.

Officials said they believe the person may have jumped into a big cat's den.

“Our assessment so far is that this is a lunatic, because no sensible person would jump into a den,” Anwar said. “You can see that the den is secured. There are stairs behind the den. It's probably where they jumped down.”
