Man taken into custody on federal charges for making a pipe bomb and issuing death threats before Vance's trip to Disneyland

An individual from Orange County was arrested following allegations of threatening to plant pipe bombs at Disneyland during Vice President JD Vance’s visit with his family. This incident occurred on July 12, 2025, coinciding with the Vice President’s family trip to the popular amusement park.

Marco Antonio Aguayo, 22, reportedly made comments on Disney’s Instagram account, suggesting that explosives were hidden throughout the park and warning of impending violence. One of his comments stated, “Pipe bombs have been placed in preparation for JD Vance’s arrival.” He also added mentions of “bloodshed” and inciting others to “rise up.”

After the comments were posted, Secret Service agents arrived at Aguayo’s home in Anaheim, where he initially denied making those statements but later acknowledged his actions. According to statements from the complaint, Aguayo claimed he intended to make a joke, seeking attention and laughter, and had even thought about deleting the post but forgot.

In a press release, Attorney General Pam Bondi and First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli highlighted the seriousness of the situation. Bondi noted the dangers faced by public officials and expressed relief that Vice President Vance and his family were unharmed. She commended law enforcement for their swift action leading to the arrest and emphasized the commitment to pursuing justice.

Essayli reinforced the stance against criminal threats, stating that they will not be tolerated, and underscored the importance of holding individuals accountable for any menacing online behavior.

Aguayo is set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday at the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, with potential consequences including up to five years in federal prison if convicted.
