Arrest Made Ahead of Charlie Kirk’s Memorial Service

An armed individual posing as law enforcement was apprehended outside State Farm Stadium in Arizona, where a memorial for the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk is scheduled for Sunday.

Joshua Runkles, 42, was arrested on Friday afternoon, just two days before the service. He was booked into the Maricopa County Jail but has since been released on bond.

The U.S. Secret Service reported that agents noticed a man behaving suspiciously at the stadium. Upon questioning, Runkles claimed to be law enforcement and was found to be armed, carrying both a knife and a firearm.

However, the Arizona Department of Public Safety clarified that he was not affiliated with any law enforcement agency.

This Saturday, Runkles was charged with felony impersonation of a law officer and a misdemeanor for carrying a weapon in a restricted area.

“An investigation is ongoing to determine his intent and purpose at the stadium,” a spokesperson for Arizona DPS stated.

A senior official from the Department of Homeland Security noted that the memorial service for Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), is classified as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1 event. This level is assigned to significant events that involve national or international importance requiring extensive federal support, similar to events like the Super Bowl.

Among those expected to speak at the service are President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Kirk’s wife, Erika, who was recently appointed as the new CEO of TPUSA following her husband’s death.
