Chicago Manager Arrested Amid Federal Immigration Operations

A manager from Chicago’s Laugh Factory has been taken into custody on allegations of obstructing federal immigration efforts. However, his mother insists that he was “kidnapped” right before her eyes.

According to the Chicago police, they responded to reports of gunfire outside the Laugh Factory around 9:20 a.m. on a Friday. When they arrived, they discovered federal agents grappling with two individuals. NBC Chicago covered the incident.

A viral video of the scene depicted federal agents pinning night manager Nathan Griffin to the ground, while bystanders shouted at the officers to intervene.

The footage also captured Griffin’s manager, his mother Elaine Prebon, and his agent in a chaotic struggle.

Onlookers yelled questions like, “Why are you doing this? Where are you taking him?” as Griffin was pulled away toward a vehicle.

“Show me your face,” another voice cried out amidst the confusion.

A witness, Will Colich, who works nearby, reported seeing multiple vehicles pull up, claiming that the employees “jumped out of the car” and forcibly took Griffin, who was with his mother at the time.

It remains uncertain what exactly initiated the altercation, but at one point, agents were seen restraining Griffin’s mother on the ground.

A Border Patrol spokesperson informed NBC Chicago that Griffin was detained for “obstructing or attempting to obstruct a federal officer” by allegedly trying to close a door on an agent’s foot.

“The individual was promptly taken into custody and handed over to the FBI for further investigation,” according to Border Patrol.

His distraught mother shared her perspective via Instagram videos, describing the event as her son’s “kidnapping” by Border Patrol.

“For those unaware, I was visiting my son in Chicago when this happened; he was taken right in front of me,” she stated.

Expressing her distress, she added, “Now, I dread going outside in the morning. I don’t want to relive the screaming and chaos that unfolded when someone tried to take my son.”

Following the incident, Griffin’s brother-in-law and mother launched a GoFundMe campaign to assist with legal expenses.

“Nathan, my brother-in-law, was detained by Border Patrol agents in Chicago, even though he is a natural-born American citizen,” wrote Tom Pinney.

“After being arrested and held for about four hours, he was moved to FBI custody, now facing federal assault charges, which could lead to an eight-year prison sentence if he is convicted.”

The GoFundMe has generated over $20,000 since its establishment on Saturday.

In an update, Plybon expressed gratitude for the community’s support, highlighting, “This incredible outpouring reminds us of the America we cherish. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.”
