Manchester United are poised to sign Anna Sandberg from BK Hacken for a record fee for a Swedish player.
The 21-year-old full-back is expected to have completed his medical at United on Tuesday and is set to become the English club’s fourth new signing this summer, following the arrivals of Dominik Janssen, Elisabeth Terland and Melvyn Mallard.
Sundberg was part of Sweden’s third-placed World Cup team last year and has long been regarded as one of the most talented young players in Scandinavian football. She has Champions League experience with Hacken, who she joined in 2022. The transfer fee is undisclosed but is thought to be well above the £150,000 that Everton reportedly paid Rosengard for Hanna Bennisson in 2021.
United have received an added boost in pre-season with the return of both Gabby George and Jess Simpson to training after missing most of last season with anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Mark Skinner’s side have now been training at St George’s Park for a few weeks in the run up to the start of pre-season. As The Guardian reported in June, United’s women’s team will move into temporary facilities at the club’s Carrington Training Centre for the new season while work is carried out to upgrade the men’s facilities at the site.

Samberg was apparently impressed with the facilities provided for the women’s team during her medical visit at Carrington and is expected to be introduced to them by the club in the coming days. United are also due to announce the addition of more women’s games to be played at Old Trafford next season.
