On Friday, federal officials announced a recall involving hundreds of boxes of mangoes sold at Walmart due to possible salmonella contamination.
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall affects at least 302 boxes of Martina-brand mangoes, which are packaged in nine-count boxes containing large mangoes.
These mangoes were available in select Walmart stores across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.
The alert came after FDA testing found salmonella in mangoes sourced from the same farm as those being recalled. However, the mangoes that tested positive were not distributed in the U.S., officials clarified.
The notice emphasized that since the recalled mangoes and the sampled ones share a common source, Panorama Produce initiated the recall.
So far, there haven’t been any reported illnesses tied to these mangoes.
The mangoes in question feature a light blue Agrofepac sticker, are marked as “Produce of Mexico,” and have a PLU number 4584 along with a UPC number 07503061948050.
These fruits were distributed between August 10 and August 21.
Consumers are advised to throw away the recalled mangoes or return them to the store where they were purchased, as a precaution against potential health risks.
If anyone suspects they might have fallen ill after eating the mangoes, they should reach out to a healthcare provider.
According to Panorama Produce, they have a strong focus on food safety and stress that this recall is voluntary and coordinated with the FDA.
