Manhattan DA analyst charged with sexually assaulting woman during NYC commute

Manhattan District Attorney’s Office Analyst Arrested

An analyst from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office was taken into custody on Tuesday, facing accusations of sexually assaulting a woman while off-duty, as reported by police on Wednesday.

Tawhid Dewan, 28, allegedly touched a 40-year-old woman’s private parts inappropriately while they were both on the subway during the busy late afternoon rush in Queens. Local sources noted that the victim and Dewan were strangers, merely passing each other.

A spokesperson from the DA’s office confirmed that Dewan has been suspended pending the investigation.

Dewan’s arrest occurred around 5 p.m., possibly right after he got back from work, according to the New York City police. It was reported that law enforcement apprehended him just minutes following the incident, which took place on the 7 train close to the Junction Boulevard station.

He is now facing several charges, including forcible touching on public transport, third-degree sexual abuse, and second-degree harassment involving physical contact. Notably, one charge includes conduct that could endanger a child under 17, indicating that a minor may have been in proximity during the incident.

Reports also indicate that Dewan had no previous arrest history. He had been working as a senior investigative analyst at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for nearly four years, having started his role on July 10, 2022.

His arraignment is set to take place in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday.
