BERLIN (AP) – German police in the town of Spa north of Frankfurt on Sunday were expanding the Manhunt for a still loose suspect after the two were fatally shot a day ago.
Police in the Hesse area said the two victims were shot in a bad Nauheim residential area about 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Frankfurt, and their motives were not immediately known. Authorities did not immediately identify the victim.
The German news agency DPA reported that while police spokesman cited evidence pointing to a single perpetrator, authorities were unable to rule out the possibility that others were involved.
According to Hessenschau, a local publication related to the public broadcasting station, large police forces were deployed after Saturday’s shooting, with local residents showing special forces being sent to the premises along with emergency vehicles and police helicopters.
