Stabbing Incident at Penn Station

A man was stabbed in the temple, resulting in a traumatic brain injury, after being attacked by a man wielding a dagger at Penn Station.

Details emerging about the incident on Sunday involving Hector DeLeon, who also injured four others, are stark and unsettling. DeLeon has been charged with seven counts of attempted murder.

According to legal documents, DeLeon, 51, allegedly drove a double-sided knife into the victim’s head, specifically targeting the left temporal lobe.

The victim, whose identity hasn’t been revealed, experienced a brain hemorrhage along with significant brain injury.

Reports suggest that the suspect, displaying erratic behavior, was likely under the influence of drugs during the stabbing spree, which involved slashing four individuals and delivering blows to two others’ faces in an unpredictable attack.

One of the victims, Henry Obadiah, 60, was heading home to New Jersey when DeLeon confronted him.

Obadiah recounted, “The crazy guy looked at me and just corralled me! He shoved the knife in my face. I was stunned.” Moments later, he heard someone shout, “He’s got a knife!”

He added, “I didn’t even realize I had just been slashed in the face.” He expressed fear about the intensity of DeLeon’s anger, saying, “He came at me to kill me! I could see the rage in his eyes.”

DeLeon faces multiple charges, including five counts of assault and six counts of attempted assault.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg condemned the violence, stating, “This was a horrific attack in a busy area of Penn Station during peak hours in New York City. Our focus is on holding those responsible accountable and preventing similar incidents in the future.”

DeLeon has a lengthy criminal record with seven prior arrests since 2008, including a stabbing incident in Newark in 2022, which was notably similar to the recent attack. He had previously stabbed a man in the neck with a six-inch knife and received just two years of probation following a guilty plea for aggravated assault.

At his arraignment on Friday, DeLeon was held without bail.
