Sources say a deranged freak slashed a Danish tourist in the face in an apparently random attack on the Upper West Side on Wednesday morning.
Sources say Screwball was caught on camera chasing the 55-year-old victim on West 86th Street off Columbus Avenue around 10:40 a.m., before the victim approached him from behind. He allegedly slashed the man's left ear and cheek.
He is said to have then sprinted away the way he came without saying a word.
Officials said the suspect was wearing a gray T-shirt, black athletic pants and sneakers.
It's unclear what he used as a weapon.
It's also unclear what triggered the attack, and sources say he and the victim did not appear to have spoken before the attack.
Footage of the attack showed the victim walking calmly down the street with a group of friends, looking completely at ease until his attackers left in hot pursuit.
The victim was treated by paramedics at St. Luke's Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
