Memorial Service Held for Sheridan Gorman in Yorktown
Last weekend, hundreds gathered in Yorktown, New York, to honor the memory of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, who was reportedly murdered by an undocumented immigrant in Chicago, a sanctuary city.
Gorman, a student at Loyola University Chicago, lost her life on March 19. The accused, 25-year-old Jose Medina, a Venezuelan national, was supposed to be handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Authorities said he fired upon a group of students at Toby Prinz Beach. Reports indicate that Gorman alerted a friend after noticing someone lurking near the pier, and, in a tragic turn, the suspect pursued the group and shot her in the back as she attempted to escape.
About 500 individuals attended Gorman’s memorial service to celebrate her life and legacy. Among those present were former classmates, who remembered her as “very loving,” “kind,” and simply a “wonderful person.”
One classmate, Alejandra Kostic, shared, “He cared about everyone around him. What happened to her is truly tragic, and I feel terrible for her family.”
Footage showed a large crowd gathering to pay their respects to Gorman, reflecting on another tragedy occurring in a sanctuary city.
The White House acknowledged Gorman’s death, labeling it “an avoidable tragedy” while criticizing the sanctuary policies advocated by the left, including those of former President Biden.
In a statement, the White House noted, “Sheridan Gorman was murdered by an illegal alien who will be released into the United States in 2023 under the Biden administration. This is a direct result of the failure of Border and Sanctuary Cities policy.” They concluded with, “Our prayers are with her loved ones.”
President Trump addressed Gorman’s death during a National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) fundraiser, stressing the need to dismantle sanctuary jurisdictions nationwide and emphasizing the importance of retaining Republican majorities in Congress to achieve that goal.
He said, “Restoring public safety also requires accountability for corrupt Democratic officials who conspire to obstruct federal law. Just days later, a precious 18-year-old college student named Sheridan Gorman was shot and killed while innocently walking in a park.”
Trump continued, remarking that Medina had been arrested and subsequently released in the sanctuary city of Chicago by Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker, whom he criticized as one of the nation’s worst governors. He urged every American to remember these events and to support Republican efforts to eliminate sanctuary jurisdictions once and for all.
