Woman Arrested Near Mar-a-Lago Claiming Urgent Message for Trump

On July 7, Caroline Shaw, a 49-year-old from Orlando, was taken into custody after she approached Mar-a-Lago. She claimed to have an “urgent message” for President Donald Trump and mentioned a gun in her vehicle. Court documents detail that Shaw was charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended license and not registering the car.

At that time, Trump was in Washington, D.C. Shaw reportedly drove a Mercedes Van to the South Gate of Mar-a-Lago just before 10 PM. Upon reaching the gate, she asked a Secret Service agent to speak with Trump urgently. It’s a bit startling to think about, really, how people might go so far to get someone’s attention.

After mentioning the gun, agents detained her and took the vehicle for further investigation. As far as the gun goes, there’s no word yet on whether anything was found.

Shaw’s driver’s license had been suspended since April 23, 2023, due to unpaid fines, and her vehicle registration expired back in December 2021. Quite the situation, huh?

As of July 9, she remained in Palm Beach County Jail, with a bond set at $2,000. She pleaded not guilty during her court appearance on July 8, where the judge ordered her to stay away from Trump and Mar-a-Lago.

In addition to the charges related to her vehicle, Palm Beach Police have sought a risk protection order to prevent her from owning firearms for at least a year.

This arrest adds to a series of other recent incidents involving security breaches at Mar-a-Lago, which is a bit concerning. For context, in another case, Zijie Li, a 39-year-old from California, attempted to access the property multiple times. He ultimately was deemed unfit to stand trial.

Another case involved Patrick Webster Warren, a 42-year-old from South Carolina, who was arrested for crossing barricades. He claimed he was just looking for an autograph from Trump, which hardly seems like enough reason to breach security.

Other incidents have included a variety of unusual attempts to get close to Trump, from trespassing to planning graffiti on the property. It’s a peculiar mix of fascination and, I guess, desperation.

In a noteworthy arrest, Anthony Thomas Reyes, a 23-year-old from Texas, was taken in June for trying to scale the wall of Mar-a-Lago. He said he wanted to “spread the gospel” and proposed marriage to Trump’s granddaughter. He was later released after posting a bond.

The White House has yet to respond to inquiries about Shaw’s arrest.
