Marc Cucurella’s World Cup Promise

Marc Cucurella is just one victory away from aiding Spain in capturing their first World Cup title since 2010. It’s quite significant, with this final win potentially cementing a memory that the team and fans will cherish forever.

During an appearance on Partidaso, host Juanma Castaño asked Cucurella what he’d do if Spain clinched the World Cup, and his response was pretty surprising.

Initially, he seemed a bit unsure, but then insisted that, should he win, he’d consider getting a small tattoo. However, he clarified that it would be a tattoo of their coach, Luis de la Fuente’s face.

“I think that’s a nice idea,” Cucurella told Castaño during the show. “It would be a good memory.” It’s certainly an interesting way to commemorate such a significant achievement.

De la Fuente has been managing Spain since 2022 and has already tasted success, leading the team to win the UEFA Champions League in 2024. His contract has been extended through Euro 2028, a testament to the faith the organization has in him.

Now, he stands on the brink of becoming one of Spain’s most celebrated coaches as the team prepares to face Argentina for the World Cup championship in New Jersey on Sunday.

If Spain secures the win, Cucurella’s promise to tattoo his coach’s face will join other vows made within the squad during the tournament. Young talent Lamine Yamal also has his fair share of promises, stating that he’d give away Beats by Dre headphones to 100 fans if the team wins.

Amid these light-hearted commitments, Cucurella acknowledged the tough journey ahead. The Argentine national team, led by legendary player Lionel Messi, has been a formidable opponent in the tournament.

Cucurella, at 27, and 19-year-old Yamal are key players for Spain in this World Cup. Over seven games, Cucurella has logged an impressive average of 90 minutes, contributing two assists. Meanwhile, Yamal has emerged as one of the sport’s promising young talents, appearing in 11 matches, scoring once and assisting three times while averaging 69 minutes per game.
